#1. Sustainable Fishing for Women on Lake Victoria

Activity Overview We are dedicated to promoting sustainable fishing practices that empower women living in the Lake Victoria region. Many women depend on fishing for their livelihoods, and we aim to ensure that these practices are both environmentally sustainable and economically beneficial.

Volunteer Roles

  • Training and Capacity Building: Volunteers will help design and deliver workshops for women on sustainable fishing techniques, fish conservation, and water management.
  • Research and Awareness: Support community awareness programs that educate women on the importance of preserving fish stocks, biodiversity, and clean water practices.
  • Community Outreach Work with local women’s groups to facilitate the creation of sustainable fishing cooperatives, empowering them to manage resources collectively.

#2. Women’s Tourism Fishing on Lake Victoria

Activity Overview Lake Victoria is a significant source of income and tourism potential, particularly through fishing tourism. Women, who are often left out of the tourism value chain, are now being trained to become active participants in tourism activities linked to sustainable fishing and eco-tourism.

Volunteer Roles

  • Tourism Development and Promotion Help women develop and market tourism activities centered around fishing experiences on Lake Victoria. This could include organizing tours, guiding visitors, and managing local fish markets.
  • Business Mentorship Support women in establishing fishing tourism enterprises such as boat tours, local fish markets, and eco-lodges by offering business advice, training, and networking opportunities.
  • Ecotourism Strategy Development Work with local communities to create tourism packages that highlight sustainable fishing practices while respecting the environment.

Skills / Experience Needed

  • Experience in tourism management, ecotourism, or hospitality
  • Skills in marketing, business development, or event planning.

#3. Training Women to Establish Guides Associations

Activity Overview This initiative focuses on establishing women-led tour guide associations in communities around Lake Victoria. Women often miss out on tourism-related income opportunities, and we are working to rectify this by trainingthem to become professional tour guides.

Volunteer Roles

  • Training Facilitator Lead workshops to train women in guiding techniques, cultural knowledge, and safety practices for tourists.
  • Curriculum Development Help develop a comprehensive training curriculum that covers natural history, local customs, environmental sustainability, and tourism ethics.
  • Association Development Assist women in establishing a professional tour guides association, helping with organizational structures, governance, and networking.

Skills / Experience Needed

  • Background in tour guiding, hospitality, or cultural heritage.
  • Leadership, training, and organizational development experience.

#4. Women’s Adaptation to Clean Energy Solutions

Activity Overview n a bid to reduce environmental degradation and empower women, we are promoting the adoption of clean energy solutions, including solar power, energy-efficient cookstoves, and biogas. Women often bear the brunt of energy poverty, and we aim to offer them access to cleaner, more affordable energy alternatives.

Volunteer Roles

  • Clean Energy Awareness and Training Educate women about clean energy solutions, how to install solar panels, and the benefits of energy-efficient cookstoves or biogas systems.
  • Installation and Maintenance Assist in the practical installation of clean energy technologies in homes, schools, and community centers.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Help track the impact of clean energy projects on local women’s lives, such as time saved, health improvements, and cost savings.

Skills / Experience Needed

  • Experience in renewable energy, particularly solar or biogas technologies.
  • Interest in sustainable development, climate change, and community empowerment.
